Selling My Gmail App Is a No-Go
Google requires apps that request access to certain interfaces that are part of a normally functioning and basic Gmail app to go through an extra step when being verified.
This verification would cost me on the order of $675 per year. I don’t expect to really make any money from this app and I can’t risk spending that much money before I have any idea if I can recoup.
If you don’t complete Google’s verification, users will see a scary warning when they sign in through their Google account to your app.
I still love using my app and I might release it for free.
Agentic Coding
Over the past few months I’ve become more and more optimistic about new AI technologies. I think we will probably see many great things happening in the world as a result of these advances.
In my own work I’ve been learning a lot and making use of various tools. My favorite general purpose tool is the Codex app. I also jump in and out of the different open stacks like Hermes and OpenClaw.
I’m disappointed in some tools’ lack of cross compatibility. Claude doesn’t use the global ~/.agents or AGENTS.MD conventions, making it a hard pass for me. Even Hermes doesn’t use the skills in the global folder so for now I’m on OpenClaw for my side agent that makes use of free models on OpenRouter.
I want to try out a software factory like Gas Town, but that one in particular seems too heavy in token usage. I want a software factory that also optimizes for cost. I currently get by on the $20 plan from OpenAI by running single threads at a time and delegating as much as possible to Luna.
Stereoscopic Conversion Tool
Advances are being made in research for tools that assist in 3D conversion for 2D video. I’m experimenting with my own pipeline with modular stages so different inference models can be tested in series to produce the best possible result on my current hardware (M4 Max).
This one is a token churner and I can only make limited progress with my extra tokens (especially when usage resets are announced beforehand so I can safely burn).
